Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

  • Q: Do I need to be an artist or experienced with art?

A: No, absolutely not! Abstract and Aligned is for adults who enjoy the process of creating and expressing themselves. Whether you’re an artist, a writer, a maker, or simply someone who loves to explore creativity, you’re welcome here. Please note that these workshops and classes are typically not a step-by-step class; these are not your typical ‘art classes.’

  • Q: What makes this different from a typical art class?

A: Unlike a traditional art class, our sessions are focused on self-expression rather than perfecting a technique. Lindsey, as the facilitator, is there to guide and support, not to judge or critique your work. Art exercises are usually open-ended, allowing you to explore creativity at your own pace and use art as a tool for you.

  • Q: What is the refund policy?

A: To ensure quality & commitment of the workshop, there is a non-refundable payment policy. This allows to effectively plan, secure the time & resources required for the event, and ensure a dedicated experience for all participants. Non-refundable payments also help to honor the time and effort invested in creating a valuable and engaging workshop, while encouraging participants to prioritize their attendance and participation. There is also no extension of time if participants are tardy.

  • Q: Who usually joins the workshops?

A: It’s usually adults that are interested in a creative outlet, art out of enjoyment, to increase social wellness, and more. Many individuals who join, have experienced past judgement and/or pressure within their creativity. This space allows them a space to breath and explore.

  • Q: What should I do/ bring to prepare?

A: For virtual events, check the specific event details for materials or supplies to have. If you’re in a live video format, please allow your camera in a way for everyone to be able to view what you’re creating, and yourself! This way, it can be as close to an in-person setting as possible, and allow Lindsey to assist as appropriate.
For in-person events, all art materials are provided. However, you’re welcome to bring other supplies that might enhance your creative experience.

  • Q: Can Lindsey lead a group where I am?

A: Depending, yes! Feel free to go here for traveling workshops & here if you’re more of a corporation.

Lindsey has experience working in a variety of settings and enjoys being a traveling artist!

  • Q: What can I expect from taking a workshop with Lindsey?

A: There are a variety of answers to this given your unique experience. Here are some takeaways that you may experience:
-the beauty of a supportive space
-connection with yourself during art making
-enjoyment in the art making process
    -return of playfulness and fun
-exploration of themes that may arise within your art
-step away from traditional art classes

  • Q: Can children join? Do you have workshops for children?

A: Unless otherwise specified, these art workshops are primarily for adults. Children are not permitted to join in-person or virtual during these.

If there is interest in me facilitating a child/teen workshop, please fill out the form here.

  • Q: Are the workshops and classes therapy?

A: No. These are strictly art classes/workshops where we come together to create!

For reference, therapy & clinical work is provided by a licensed mental health provider and is used as a form of psychotherapy to address mental health concerns, symptoms, emotional challenges, or behavioral issues. It often involves assessment, treatment planning, diagnosing, and measurable therapeutic goals. There is a deeper dive into processing and working towards treatment goals. At Abstract and Aligned, we do not partake in this.

Lindsey’s art workshops typically focus on creative expression and connection. This is more casual and community based.
Creating art can at times, feel therapeutic in nature. The services offered through Abstract & Aligned are not therapy and do not diagnose or treat mental health conditions. These services are not a substitute for treatment.
